The Edmonton Oilers have announced the re-signing of Finnish forward Lennart Petrell to a one-year extension.

Petrell, who had spent the prior seven seasons with Helsinki in the SM-Liiga, registered four goals and five assists in 60 games for the Oilers this year. The 28-year-old led the club in hits with 122 and finished second in blocked shots with 47.

A grinding winger with good size and strength, Petrell endeared himself to both fans and teammates thanks to his hard work and fearless style of play. While he will never be someone who puts up big offensive numbers, Petrell is a reliable player who can be used on the 3rd or 4th line and also be an effective penalty killer.

The club announced the signing on its Twitter feed and official website this morining, but did not disclose the financial terms of the deal.
