Uncertainty is the theme lately. In the wake of an 8 game losing streak, the fate of this entire team seems to be up in the air. My instincts are telling me that there will be some major announcement about the Flames in the time leading up to the trade deadline. I could very well be wrong, but something needs to happen…soon.
Believe me when I say that I am the LEAST patient person in the world, but I know that things will happen when they are supposed to happen. Until then, I will wait, like all other Flames fans, to hear about what will happen to our team in the next couple of weeks.
I have heard that some of our Flames fans are so angry lately that they are hoping the team loses in order to force a change in the organization. Um, what?! I have been a Flames fan for far too long to throw in the towel now. I have stuck by this team through the best and the worst of times, and I always will. I will never hope for my team to lose. Ever.
It seems to me that some fans feel entitled to answers from the Flames organization because of the nose-dive that our team has taken this season. I admit that there’s probably a lot that we don’t know, but I will never feel that I am entitled to know every single little detail of what goes on behind the scenes or on the ice. It would probably make me understand things a little better if I knew every detail, but by no means do I feel entitled to know. I trust that the organization and the players will do what is best for the team in due time.
Everyone has an opinion lately, and I am no exception. I’ve had numerous discussions about Iginla, Kiprusoff, Cammalleri, Giordano, Bouwmeester, and Glencross. I would hate to see any of them leave the team. But the truth of the matter is that any one of them could leave at any time. NTC or not, essentially, it is up to the player. And it seems that we’re in the midst of the storm right now. If any of them wanted to waive their NTCs, I’m guessing that now would be the time that they would consider the idea, if ever.
One thing is for sure, this team needs us. They need our support, understanding, and patience. As a Flames fan since 1988, I will idly sit back and wait to hear whether or not things are about to be changed. Regardless of the outcome, there are very few things that would make me turn against my team.
On a good note, my favourite WHL team has made playoffs, so there’s always that…
