(previously published on September 9th – new update coming soon!)
The season is almost upon us! This hockey girl is quite excited to see the Flames back on the ice this year. I’m sure there will be lots of surprises in store for the team this year, considering the amount of changes that have been taking place within the organization.
While Steve Begin has been sent down to play alongside Sean Monahan for the Abbotsford Heat, Morgan Klimchuk (a first round draft pick for the Flames during the past draft) will be taking some time to heal because of an abdominal wall strain which he sustained while at training camp for the Regina Pats during the pre-season. As well, Ryan Howse has been suspended from the Flames for not showing up to training camp.
But the biggest news of all during the Flames off-season is that of Brian Burke being named Head Of Hockey Operations in the organization. Not only is Burke a new addition, but the position that he has accepted is also new. This is the first time that Jay Feaster will be accountable to someone other than Ken King. Although there is speculation about whether or not Burke and Feaster will be able to work cohesively together, Burke had mentioned that he will be taking an “advisory role” and wants to stay in the background. From what I understand, he hopes that his changes will be seen over time as he helps to create a new team of tough, strong young hockey players.
In my opinion, I think that Burke’s experience and knowledge in the league will be an asset that the organization needs to help the Flames create a team worthy of a playoff run. I believe we have a lot to look forward to as Flames fans in the next two or three season.
Let the games begin!
